A subdomain is a part of a web address that's under the main domain name, for instance name.example.com. From a technical perspective, even in www.example.com the "www" element is a subdomain since the fully qualified domain name is only "example.com". Every subdomain can have its own site and records and can even be hosted with a different company if you need to use a certain feature that's not provided by your current provider. An illustration for using a subdomain is if you have a company website and an online store under a subdomain where customers can buy your products. In addition, you can have a forum in which they can discuss the products and by using subdomains rather than subfolders you'll avoid any risk of all sites going down if you perform maintenance, or update one of the website scripts. Keeping the sites separated is more secure in the case of a script security breach.

Subdomains in Shared Web Hosting

Our shared web hosting plans will enable you to create many subdomains for every domain hosted within your account without any hassle. Assuming that the main domain name is added, it takes 2 mouse clicks to create a subdomain and choose what folder it'll open (if different from the default one), set custom error pages, activate FrontPage Extensions, set a shared IP address or a dedicated one, and much more. All subdomains will be conveniently listed in alphabetical order under their main domain for quick access and management. By right-clicking on any of them and by using instant access buttons you can view the error logs, visitor statistics or website files for that particular subdomain. We haven't set a limit for the total amount of subdomains which you can create with any one of our plans, so you can have as many as you wish.
